Lowboy, RGN or step-deck: what your machine actually rides on
The trailer is not chosen by category. It is chosen by how tall the machine is, how heavy it is, and whether it can drive on by itself.
Two machines of the same weight do not necessarily ride on the same trailer. What decides it is the combination of height, weight and how the machine gets on board.
Step-deck
A step-deck drops behind the tractor to give a lower rear deck. It suits equipment that clears the legal height without help and does not need a very low ride. It is the simplest and usually the least expensive option when the machine fits.
Lowboy
A lowboy sits much closer to the ground, which buys height for tall machines. That extra clearance is what keeps an excavator or a dozer under the legal ceiling without folding it down further.
RGN
A removable gooseneck detaches at the front so the deck lowers to the ground and becomes a ramp. It is what you want when the machine can drive on under its own power, because it avoids winching and it avoids loading ramps that many yards do not have.
Multi-axle
Past a certain weight the problem is no longer height but how the load presses on the road. Adding axles spreads that weight so the configuration stays within what bridges and pavement are rated for.
How we decide
We take the real transport dimensions of your machine, check them against the limits on the route, and pick the configuration that keeps the load legal with the least cost. That is why we ask for the model before we quote.
